Literacy and Numeracy Week
Numeracy Activity
MSS participated in the national activity of completing a shuttle run and recording the data. Our class had to get into four groups and complete a 20 metre shuttle run as many times as possible in 2 minutes, 4 minutes then 6 minutes.
Our results were:
2 Minutes: 53 shuttles
4 Minutes: 145 shuttles
6 Minutes: 206 shuttles.
After completing this we calculated that we ran 16160 metres (or 16.16km), with an average distance of 646.4m. We found that our best time was 36 shuttles per minute at the second try of 4 minutes. We will keep using the data later in the week and compare our class to other schools in Australia.

Length
This term we are studying "Length" in Maths. To begin this unit the children could measure the length of items around the front of the school using their own measuring tool. Some children measured with shoes, some with meter rulers and others with tape measures. Have a look at the children finding the length of items!
Nintendo DS's in Maths
During this term we have been using the DS's as a whole class set to assist children in developing their number facts. The children are given two opportunities during the day to spend ten minutes completing the daily test and then practising their number facts including addition, subtraction and times tables. We have seen a great improvement in their number fact knowledge this term. Our class had the DS's in week 3 and will have them again next week. Let's see how fast and accurate we can get on our times table knowledge.
